BIGPETE'S FIRST PRESS CONFERENCE
Bigpete: It takes everything to make a winning team. It takes a team effort, a team identity, everyone has to contribute and put everything on the table. You have a lot of little pieces working together to make a winning team.
- Question: Bigpete you are named General Manager of the Montreal Canadiens, how do you feel towards this opportunity?
-Bigpete: Growing up in Montreal and watching them play as a kid, I always wanted to be part of the organization, and It's a true honor to become the General Manager.
-Question: What do you think of the work that has been done with this team over the years?
- Bigpete: What’s behind me is behind me, whatever happened before happened before, I’m sure there was some good things, so moving forward, you’ll see this is who I am, and what you see is what you get, I think the fans in Montreal, my job here is to make this team better and better and better, and that’s what I’m going to do starting today.
- Question: Do you think you should have a player who’s NHL-ready?
- Bigpete: It’s possible, there’s no need to put a guy in the NHL if he’s not ready. I’m a firm believer that everyone has their own pace, but I can’t tell you today.
-Question: What about the coaching job, do you have a man in mind? How do you feel about the language, should it be an asset for the coach?
-Bigpete: We haven't started searching, but their is a good list of names out there that were going to meet and interview, and then make a decision. It's not about the language, he has to be able to communicate with the players and the media.
- Question: Mr. Molson, what made the difference for you to go with Bigpete?
- Molson: Bigpete believes everyone on the team contributes to winning, that our team will be built for long term success through player procurement and development, and he’s a natural leader who will have the respect of everyone in our organization.
- Molson: Today marks the first step towards bringing back a winning culture to our organization. We want to give our fans what they deserve, the best possible product on the ice, and establish stability in all areas of the organization. We were fortunate to have some excellent candidates to evaluate. The decision was not easy, but we feel we’ve selected an individual with the potential to lead our organization into the future.
- Molson: Finally, he is a natural leader, and he is really trustworthy. I personally want to thank Bigpete for accepting to join the Montreal Canadiens and I congratulate him for his nomination.
- Molson: Bigpete was born in Montreal, he was the player personnel of the Drummondville Voltigeurs of the QMJHL, and he finally worked as a General Mangager and won the Memorial Cup. Above this experience, he has strong convictions to build a winning organization.
- Molson: We wanted a strong determination and commitment to win. We believe we have found this person, and I’m proud to introduce our new GM, Bigpete.
