Pittsburgh Powerhouse
The Pittsburgh Penguins have just made a huge move that will bring Ovechkin to an already star-studded team. Ovechkin seemed to be off the leaderboards last season but that may have been due to an injury he suffered restricting him to only 61 games. He still managed to score 26 goals and notch 29 assists for a total of 55 points on the season.
Some say that Ovechkin has been in a slight slump his past couple of seasons but GM Alex Mon thinks this is more due to a lack of direction and guidance by his former teams. In Pittsburgh he will be playing with the leagues other best players combining to form a line of sheer firepower.
All 3 forwards are all former 50 goal scorers with ovechkin having once hit 65 in the 2007-2008 season which hasn't been surpassed since. With the league's best playmakers at his disposal, will Ovie be able to reach the 60 plateau once again?
Some people argue that the trade which sent highly regarded defensive prospect Olli Maata to Boston will come back to haunt an already crippling Penguins Defense which lacks depth past Kris Letang and Simon Despres.
This trade also saw Forwards Rick Nash and Eric Tangradi to the Boston Bruins.

GM Addresses Defense Issue
Pittsburgh Penguins Defense was a major issue last season and played a big part in their 1st round elimination versus the Carolina Hurricanes. However analysts believe that GM Alex Mon may have a plan after all for the degraded defense.
It started last Friday when the UFA Market opened up. Pittsburgh traded a 3rd round pick for San Jose defenseman Justin Braun. Braun, 26, played only 4 games for San Jose last season, but some speculate he will be getting a bigger role in Pittsburgh.
"Braun is still young, has plenty of time to develop. That's what we're looking for here, young players who want to play and be a part of a great team."
The following days involved 2 UFA signings, both of which were defensemen. Another young player Matt Taormina was signed for $900,000 per year on a 3 year contract. Also signed, was veteran defenseman Tom Poti for 1 year at $1,600,000.
"We're confident that with our off season moves we can come back much better this season. We look at making a great run this year" -Alex Mon

Ovechkin Overload
Despite being third in their division and eleventh in the league, the Pittsburgh Penguins have shown a great deal of skill and tenacity up front. Alexander Ovechkin has scored 8 goals in just 9 games and is on a 5 game goal streak. The only player to score more goals this season so far is Marian Hossa but he has done so in 2 more games then Ovi.
When asked about how he thinks he's been scoring so easily he responded with the following:
"Well it's a different game here in Pittsburgh. I'm playing on a line with two of the greatest players in the game so it's not too hard. They know where I'm going to be and know how to make good passes."
Ovechkin was acquired in the off season in a trade that sent Rick Nash to the Boston Bruins. Ovechkin is on pace for a ridiculous 73 goal season. Even if Ovi can manage to score past his personal record of 65 that would be an amazing goal to accomplish.
