I would like to bring up a suggestion that could be interesting. The two teams that are in the Stanley Cup finals, should draft last, like they do in the NHL. What do you guys think?

In real life, the first team out of the draft would pick at 15, second team out at 16, etc. EHM doesn't do this automatically, so I'd need to trade all of the picks myself to make this work. It's just too confusing, as often times teams won't have all five of their picks as they would have traded them to other teams around the league.

Yeah but don't you do the draft on EHM?

Standings make more sense and that's just too much work for the Commish when were already do a lottery. If the two 8th seed teams go to the finals, that's a lot of picks for him to move.

Yeah but don't you do the draft on EHM? I dont think you understand what Im saying. Yes, I do the draft on EHM, but the program itself doesn't do the pick movements like it would in real life. For example, if I was the 8th seed in the East when I made the finals, that would mean my pick would need to be 29th. Now, that means I need to trade my picks all the way from 15th (where EHM places me normally) to 29th. That means I trade 15's picks with the first team out of the playoffs, then 16ths with the second team, etc. You can imagine how much work that would be, especially when teams trade their picks to other teams as well, meaning I need to do that while going around to every team in the league to hunt down where the picks ended up. It's impractical and a massive amount of work that would be very easy to screw up.

The only way I could see this working would be editing the players file after the draft. But since tampering with the file can lead to future problems it's best we don't touch it unless necessary. This is a nice idea just not practical given the circumstances.

No it's totally doable. You do the draft on the forums with the draft order based on the playoffs, and then when its time to input on EHM who cares if EHM doesnt have the same drafting orders, because you know the player each team is selecting.
For Example, if Phoenix drafts 18th and selects a player caled Kissmy Butt, then when its time to input the draft, even if PHX is actually 12th in the EHM you dont care because he's drafting Kissmy Butt, so you just select that player at his turn

And also, for teams who do not send in lists for the auto'd rounds, it would get very confusing trying to follow the draft order when the teams are out of order in game. For example, Phoenix is 18th but actually 12th like in yiour example. The Phoenix GM, for sake of argument, doesn't send in a pick. His pick is technically 12th, but picks 18th in game. Now, I need to make his auto pick as if he was 12th, which then means that the picks before him (in the regular order, so 17, 16, 15, etc) need to be picked after him. In order to do this properly without making a mistake, I'd need to type up five rounds worth of auto picks the same way as we'd do it on the boards in order to make sure that everyone gets the right players and in the right way. I mean, for the rounds that we do on the boards, where all of the picks are done and listed out in front of me, it most certainly could work in this way. But for the rounds afterwards that we do not live draft, the only way to do this properly would be to right them all out or live draft all five rounds.

well this system could be implemented for the first round only, for the latter rounds we can use the EHM rankings...
but either way, its fine by me
