Before we begin, you'll need to download both EHM and the save file, which can be found at the following links.
Eastside Hockey Manager
ehm.fhockey.com/EHM%20game.php
PTPHL File
dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/45957201/ptphlleague.RAR
Step One: Installing EHM and Downloading the File
This is what you will see upon opening the first link that I provided you. From here, you can download the actual EHM program. See the file named EASTSIDE SET UP (1.16)? That's the one that you want, so click it and download it. You may need the Required OCX Files depending on your version of windows, but we'll get to that later. Either way, they're there if you need them. Once you've downloaded it, install the program and follow the on-screen steps. It's fairly straight forward and shouldn't cause you any trouble.
Clicking the Dropbox link will download the leaguefile. It will be in .rar format, so extract the contents to your desktop. You should have one folder named ptphlleague, which is what you're gonna need.
Step Two: Where to Place the Save File!
Once you have installed EHM and have the file extracted, it's time to place it in the proper location. Open up My Computer (or Computer as it's called on some versions of Windows) and click on Local Disk (C:). Here, you should see something similar to the following;
There should be a folder named Program Files, or Program Files (x86), depending on your version of Windows. From personal experience, if the x86 folder is there, it's the one you'll need to use. If it isn't there, than regular Program Files will suffice. Click and open it, then locate the folder entitled Eastside Hockey Manager. Open that and you'll see the following;
This is where the inner-workings of EHM lie. You can modify things such as the team names, the pictures used intside, etc. There's no need for any of that though, your focus should be the folder titles save. Place the ptphlleague file that you downloaded into this folder. That's all you need to do!
Step Three: Running EHM
After you have done this, attempt to open/run EHM (either from the start menu or the desktop shortcut). If it runs right away, then you're good. If not, you may receive an error. There are two fixes to this error. First, try right clicking the icon and clicking Run as Administrator. If that doesn't work, download the OCX files mentioned earlier and place them into the folder seen in the third screenshot. After that has been done, EHM should open as normal and look something like:
Step Four: Opening the File
In the top left corner above Mr Sakic you will find the word File. Click that, and then select Open League from the drop down menu to bring up the box that you see in mine. There are a few save folders already there for me but if this is your first time using EHM, there'll be nothing. ptphlleague is not there in your menu, but you can still open it. In the white bar type 'ptphlleague', and then click Load. If you've placed the league folder into the save folder correctly, the game will begin to load. If not, you'll get a message saying the league does not exist. As long as this doesn't happen, you're good. It may take a while to load the file so be patient.
Step Five; EHM's Layout
When the program has finished loading, you will see something similar to this. From here, the entire program is at your finger tips. I recommend looking around and exploring to get a hang on the program. I'll outline what each tab is used for below.
Simulate - This is the tab that you start on. From here, you can simulate days on the calendar. All of the games will be shown in the box to the right. If a game is in bold, it means that a user controlled team is playing. They should all be bold as, since this is a league, I have control of all thirty teams. If you double click a game,, the boxscore that you see in the uploaded calendar will appear.
Scouting - In this tab, you can assign scouts and receive makeshift scouting reports on players, as well as turn letter grade ratings into numbers. We don't use this in this league as I provide legit players.ehm reports at draft time, but if yo're playing offline this could be something you may want to look into. You can assign a scout to any NHL team or any nation to scout, but obviously, the better the scout, the more accurate the information that you receive back will be.
Statistics - This is where you can see your player statistics, like the uploaded statistics htmls. You can sort any of the columns, and change between any NHL teams. There are check boxes at the bottom that will toggle between AHL and playoff statistics as well. You can also sort by a specific player position or rookies.
Training - You will see all of your pro team players with columns for different types of training. You can switch to the farm team by using the checkbox in the bottom left corner. On the right, you can assign coaches to different areas to increase training benefits, and at the botom are the training values that we set in the Training section here. Remember, these changes won't be saved with your lines or sent into me, so if you change these, you'll need to do this via the forum as normal.
Players/Staff - Here you will find a full list of all of the players in your system, be it NHL/AHL/Prospects/NHL Staff/AHL Staff. You can change between them using the drop box at the bottom and the checkboxes. Again, you can sort these by any category you wish or click Search With Filter to search for a particular player.
Double click a player to bring up a box containing more detailed information such as birthday, age, status,career statistics and more. This is pretty straight forward, the different tabs will display different information. You can offer a new contract by clicking Actions at the top. Thsi is also where you would buy out a player. You can change status with the Status in Organization tab, place them on waivers/claim if they are already on them, and see/change their secondary position.
Finances - Not terribly important in online leagues since we do not use the budget feature. You'll find info on ticke tsales, fan products, tv revenue, expenses, etc, and you can change ticket prices. Again, not that important for an online league but you'll be interested if you're playing offline.
Standings - You'll find standings here for NHL/AHL. You can sort by League/Conference or by division as well by clicking the Western Conference or Eastern Conference tabs at the top. Like with stats, you can sort by any column you wish.
Calendar - The calendar here will feature all of the games upcoming or past, and allow you to go back and find old boxscores as well.
Lines - See the next section for an in-depth look here. This is the tab you'll need to familiarize yourself with the most.
News - This is the same as the News uploads that I post. You can click league news to go to the main screen and pick from any team if you wish. There's also a Transactions tab.
Farm Team - This is where you call up or send down players. Click the player you wish to move and then use the appropriate button in the middle. Players with a line through their name will require waivers. EHM's waivers system is a bit weird sometimes, and it will sometimes tell you that some players need waivers when they really don't. The general guideline for the league is if a player is 27 or has 200 games played, which you can find by double clicking the players name and going to Statistics in the box that comes up. This will also keep track of your max roster size and injuries, so you have no excuses to be over the team limit anymore
Team Info - This section will allow you to change which team you are controlling. You'l go here and select your team from the menu to get to your lines and other team information. Draft picks are listed here as well.
Trade - This is where you would trade players. Not important for the league but pretty straight forward otherwise. Just click the players name to add him to the trade.
Options - Options here such as sliders and preferences can be changed whenever you want but will have no effect on the league itself.
You can find more detailed statistics and such using the tool bar at the top of the page, including CSB rankings, past drafts and stats for junior teams as well. Look around and get familiar with the program, it'll really help, especially if you decide to play offline.
Step Six; Doing Your Lines!
Click the Team Info tab.
You will begin on the Ducks. If your logo doesn't look that way, it's fine. You'll need to downlaod a picture update but it's not required at all. Similarly, at the start Winnipeg will still be known as Atlanta but you can change that if you wish. There are a number of great tutorials on the fhockey site where you downloaded EHM, as well as a help forum, so you cna check that out if you wish.
Click the bar above Resign GM and find your team, then select Switch To to take control of them.
Now, go to the Lines tab.
The Lines tab will look something like this. All of the players that you have up at the time can be found on the left. Theres a tab for each line that would normally post, which you can fill in as you go, with length and tactics.
Notice the information for Kris Versteeg at the bottom? Click a player's name to select them, then you can place them in your lines. You can also choose to auto your lines if you wish, but you'll need 4LW 4C 4RW 6D and 2G up in order for that to work. Even if players are up but at different positions, you'll get an error.
Take your time filling in your lines. When you're done, click confirm. If you do not click this and move out of the tab, your progress will reset. If you've made an error, the game will tell you, at which point just double check to make sure that there's nothing wrong. Some common errors are having players on your PP/PK that aren't in your even strength lineup.
Once you're done and have confirmed your lines, click the Save button below to bring up a dialog box. Save your lines somewhere where you can easily get them. I also want them named similarly to this;
CAR 21.2.2014
That is, of course, the date that the file is currently on and can be found in the Simulate tab above the box where tthat day's games can be found.
When you're done, click Farm Lines and you'll switch to your farm team.
This works the same as your pro lines. Fill them in, be sure to auto, and then save them. Use something like this;
CARfarm 21.2.2014.
That's it! Once you've done that, take the two line files that you have saved and send them to me. You can attach them to an email and send it to the league email below. If you have any problems, I'll do my best to help you solve them.
League EMail: ptphl@live.com
Note: Functions/training/etc will still need to be posted. The point of this is to make lines much easier and way more accurate. Also, the only thing you truly need to know is starting up EHM properly and doing lines. The rest is all optional but there for you if you want to learn how to use it and have the entire league's info of statistics/new/etc right in front of you. Rosters/stats/injuries/etc will still be posted on the boards as normal.
