We all Jarome Iginla is the big fish in this year’s UFA class but who else is out there? Let’s take a look.
Chris Kunitz LW 35 3725000 0 48 76 75 76 76 72 79 76 63 70 75 66 74 75 75 73
At Age 35 Kunitz is still a force to be reckoned with. He is very good with the puck in the offensive zone in addition to his ability to throw punishing hits his opposition’s way. Chris is also a solid skater and can be trusted to take a face off. Kunitz could serve as a 2nd liner on some teams but is the ideal two way 3rd liner.
Seeking: 1- 2 years @ 3 mil per year
Nik Antropov C 34 1500000 0 34 76 77 74 67 72 64 70 83 76 75 64 74 75 67 73
Antropov only played in 27 games last year with the Vancouver Canucks and he is looking to play a bigger role with his next team. Nik’s dream job is a second line center but he is willing to accept a depth scoring role as well. Although he is not the best skater he is a responsible faceoff man and still has a good shot.
Seeking: 1- 2 years @ 1.75 mil per year
Nathan Gerbe C 27 1433333 0 69 77 86 76 64 72 57 74 68 72 65 53 65 79 64 70
Outside of Iginla Nathan Gerbe may be the most offensively gifted player available via UFA. He is a supreme playmaker with very good shooting and playmaking abilities as well. Gerbes flaw is that his defensive game is nearly nonexistent. Nathan wants to be a second line winger somewhere but would to contribute in any role with an NHL team.
Seeking: 4-6 years @ 1.8 mil per year
David Legwand C 34 4500000 0 44 75 71 75 74 75 69 75 60 76 76 69 75 73 72 73
After spending his whole career as a Nashville Predator David Legwand is hitting the UFA market. The 34 year old Grosse Pointe, Michigan native is still a good player on both ends of the ice. While he doesn’t really make things happen offensively he seems to find himself in the right place at the right time often and has the stickhandling and shot to find the back of the net from time to time. Leg wand put up 51 points last year and is looking for a 3rd line role with a cup contender. He has the skills to get the job done in the faceoff circle but is willing to make the switch to left wing to accommodate his new team.
Seeking: 2-3 years @ 3 mil per year
Pascal Dupuis RW 35 1100000 0 43 71 72 72 72 77 69 78 64 87 69 70 76 71 72 73/Colby Armstrong LW 31 1000000 0 63 67 71 73 70 71 74 74 78 58 53 74 74 70 71 70
Either one of these guys would make a great 4th line veteran presence. Dupuis is a talented skater who is rarely caught out of position and isn’t easily knocked off his stride. Colby Armstrong brings more leadership to the table and would be a great line mate for younger guys. Armstrong brings more grit to the table as he can eat up minutes without showing fatigue and while they might not be the biggest hits in the game he will put a hit on when needed. He is also a decent skater. Both of these players are looking for a chance where ever they can.
